Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is MX20 Mineral Water?
MX20 Mineral Water is a marketing and education site about the different types of mineral water — what they are, how they're sourced, and what's actually substantiated about their mineral content. We aren't a retailer and don't sell water ourselves.
What makes water 'mineral water' instead of just bottled water?
In the US, bottled water labeled 'mineral water' must come from a protected underground source and naturally contain at least 250 parts per million of total dissolved solids, with no minerals added after it's collected — see FDA bottled water standards for the exact definition.
Is mineral water better for you than regular water?
It depends on the specific water and what you're looking for — mineral water can contain more calcium, magnesium or other trace minerals than typical tap or purified water, but we don't make blanket health claims here. Check the specific brand's published mineral analysis and talk to a doctor about your own needs.
Is alkaline water's health claims backed by evidence?
Alkaline water is widely marketed with health claims that aren't well supported by independent research. We describe what 'alkaline' means and how it's measured, without repeating unverified benefit claims as fact.
What's the difference between spring, artesian and mineral water?
These terms describe where and how the water is sourced (a spring, a confined underground aquifer reached by a well, or a source naturally rich in dissolved minerals) and are each separately defined under US bottled water regulations — see our label-reading guide for the specifics.
Where do your facts about specific brands come from?
Wherever we describe a specific brand's mineral content, carbonation method or source, we link to that brand's own published water-quality report or a government reference rather than stating a number ourselves.
Can my mineral water brand be listed here?
Yes — brands and source operators can create a free listing. There's no paid placement on this site yet; a future advertising option is being considered but isn't available today.
